American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
The South Lake Tahoe Recreation Dept. is offering two American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard Training courses. The courses are being taught by City employee, Liz Terzian and will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent,recognize,and respond to aquatic emergencies. Participants will be trained and certified to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illness until EMS (emergency services) take over.

Participants must be 16 years of age, able to swim 300 yards continuously while demonstrating breathing control and rhythmic breathing, tread water for two minutes using the legs only, and complete a timed event.

Session A Class~7 classes: Wednesdays & Fridays
  Dates: April 5th - 28th (excluding Friday April 14th )
Times: Wednesdays 4 PM-8 PM  - Fridays 3 PM-7 PM 
Must register by April 3rd 2017

Session B Class~ 4 classes + 20 hours online: Friday & Saturdays

Dates: May 5th - 13th
Times: Fridays 3 PM- 7 PM - Saturdays 10 AM-6 PM
Must register by May 1st 2017

WSI

WSI (Water Safety Instructor) Class 2017

The American Red Cross Blended Learning Water Safety Instructor Class trains candidates to teach courses and presentations in the Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety Program. The course helps develop instructors understanding of how to use the course materials, how to conduct training sessions and how to evaluate participants' progress. Successful candidates are eligible to teach Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn to Swim, three adult-focused courses, as well as the Basic Water Rescue and Personal Water Safety courses and more.
Participants must be at least 16 ears of age, be proficient swimmers, and able to successfully complete the pre-course session.
Successful completion includes the American Red Cross Safety Water Instructor Cert. (valid 2 years)

  • $50.00 American Red Cross Workbook/Materials(recommended)
