Responsibilities
The city attorney, directly appointed by the City Council, and the deputy city attorney are responsible for administration of all legal affairs of the city, including the City Council, the South Tahoe Redevelopment Agency, the various city commissions, as well as all city departments and officers.
The city attorney’s office is responsible for:
- Rendering legal advice and opinions to the City Council, Redevelopment Agency, city and agency boards and commissions, and city staff
- Representing the city in litigation, administrative hearings, and other legal matters
- Preparing or reviewing all ordinances, contracts and other legal documents
- Overseeing all work done by outside counsel on behalf of the city.
