The City of South Lake Tahoe is hosting the annual South Lake Tahoe 4th of July parade on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from the “Y” where Highways 89 and 50 intersect to Bijou Community Park off of Al Tahoe Blvd, beginning at 10am.
The response to the parade has been outstanding and the City has received over 75 vehicle and float entries and more than 200 walkers in the parade.
The annual parade honors our local veterans and the American Legion Post 795 who will serve as the parade marshals. There will be an "After Party" at Bijou Community Park located at 1201 Al Tahoe Blvd. The party will begin immediately following the conclusion of the parade a featuring a BBQ with all proceeds going to the American Legion.
Local on-air personality Howie Nave of KRLT’s hit show "Howie’s Morning Rush" and host at The Improv at Harveys will be Host/Emcee for the parade and will be announcing in front of Lake Tahoe Unified District school bus garage on Al Tahoe Blvd. across from Rite Aid which will provide the perfect viewing location of the parade. The parade will be pausing in front of the bus garage and viewers are encouraged to bring their chairs and watch the parade from this prime location.
Parade participants are to be in formation by 9:00 a.m. on Highway 89. The parade will also be live streamed online at www.tahoeweathercam.com as a courtesy of the Tahoe Weather Cam and Community Ink Network. Be sure to register and activate your account in advance.
Motorists can expect delays from 9:45am to 11am on the two eastbound lanes of Highway 50 from the “Y” to Al Tahoe Blvd. as there will be a “rolling closure” for the parade. The two westbound lanes of Highway 50 from Stateline to the “Y” will remain open. Motorists are to except traffic to be slow and we encourage motorists to utilize Pioneer Trail during and immediately following the parade.
A GoFundMe account has been established to raise funds for the local American Legion Post 795 at www.gofundme.com/LegionPost795 The American Legion Post 795 is in need of updating and is a small post of 94 members. Post 795 is one of three Posts’ in California that own their own building and land. The Veterans of South Lake Tahoe appreciate the support the community has given them over the years.
