December 29, 2011 - SOUTH LAKE TAHOE
The City of South Lake Tahoe is pleased to announce the owners of the Garfinkle property located 2011 Lake Tahoe Boulevard (northeast corner of the “Y”) have signed a permit application to bring T.J. Maxx into the location as their new tenant. The owners have indicated they expect a Spring 2012 grand opening.

Mayor Claire Fortier indicated, “This is exciting news for the City and community, an excellent way to get New Year 2012 off to a great start breathing new life into that corner of the community.”

Mayor Pro Tem, Tom Davis has been working with the owners to help facilitate a smooth process and said, “This is an excellent example of government at its best, simplifying the process to create 60 to 80 new jobs for our community.”

The City Council’s adopted Strategic Plan and Business Plan include initiatives to stimulate economic development including expanding retail opportunities and improving employment opportunities in the community. The opening of T.J. Maxx in the spring of 2012 will help to achieve these goals set by the City Council. It will also bring activity and shopping opportunities to the “Y” which will help to stimulate other economic and retail development in the area.

The City would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff at Tahoe Regional Planning Agency for working collaboratively with the City and the property owners to streamline the permitting process enabling T.J. Maxx to bring jobs and great retail shopping to South Lake Tahoe. City Assistant Planner, Judy Finn and staff at the Development Services Department also devoted many hours to the project demonstrating the best in customer service.
