Posted on: October 18, 2017[ARCHIVED] Champions Plaza “Spirit of Competition” Unveiling Rescheduled for October 27th
Wildfires in Montana during the month of September delayed the production of the statue at Champions Plaza. The City is happy to announce that the date has been rescheduled and we will be honoring local National, World and Olympic Athletes with the unveiling the Spirit of Competition bronze sculpture on Friday, October 27th at 12pm at Champions Plaza located at 1000 Lakeview Avenue.
On the heels of the 2014 Winter Olympics, in which several of our local athletes earned Olympic medals, the idea of creating a Champions Plaza was born. To honor and recognize these athletes the City Council approved the construction and design of a Champions Plaza.
The approximate 11’ bronze sculpture which represents male and female athletes reaching for a ring is being created by artist Gareth Curtiss.
We hope that you will be able to join us in this celebration as we honor our local athletes who inspired the creation of Champions Plaza. Artist Gareth Curtiss will be in attendance to talk about his vision which led to his Spirit of Competition sculpture.
In Spring 2018, we will be formally inducting our first round of National and World Champion Athletes from South Lake Tahoe into the Walk of Champions. We hope that all inductees will be able to attend.
