South Lake Tahoe, CA-- The South Lake Tahoe Fire and Police departments are investigating a fire and numerous explosions that happened over the weekend.

On January 11, 2019, dispatch got several 911 calls about multiple explosions and a fire at 1104 Kyburz Ave.

Fire and Police personnel arrived on scene and found the home fully engulfed. As SLTFR tried to contain the fire, several smaller explosions occurred as butane gas canisters ignited, sending the flaming cans and shrapnel toward other homes. All of this put firefighters in danger as they tried to stop the fire from spreading to neighboring properties.

Investigators determined a marijuana honey oil lab caused the explosion and fire, all of this just feet away from an occupied motel. Joe Johnson was arrested as a result of the fire and more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and reference case number 1901-1089.

Anyone with information about these dangerous and extremely volatile marijuana honey oil labs or if you would like to report suspicious activity in their neighborhood are asked to contact the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at (530) 542–6100 or secret witness at (530) 541-6800.
