“We still want people to stay off the roads but if you have to get out and about today be careful,” said Chris Fiore, Communications Manager for the City of South Lake Tahoe, “Plows are out and working around the clock and have been for some time.”
Snow removal teams have been working 17 days straight as of today. These are non-stop 24-hour-operations. The plan is for them to continue working 24/7 for the foreseeable future as we expect another 2-3' by late Sunday. After the initial plowing is over, roadway widening operations will continue. This can be a slow process, snow removal can take more than 13 hours per zone, but the goal is to make the roads safe and keep them safe for everyone.
“With this much snow it can be easy to get frustrated, but our snow removal teams are working hard,” said Fiore, “We are asking for your patience as city staff do their very best to clear roads and get things back to normal.
The city is asking people to remove vehicles from snow removal areas. This has been a problem and continues to be a problem. Illegally parked and abandoned cars hamper snow removal efforts and are dangerous for our snow removal operators.
