South Lake Tahoe, CA- A Winter Storm Warning and Avalanche Watch are in effect as another winter storm bears down on South Lake Tahoe. Travel will be a problem in and around the area as 3-4 feet of snow are expected. To check weather conditions in real time, click here.

“If you have to get out, now is the time,” said Chris Fiore, Communications Manager for the City of South Lake Tahoe, “Driving conditions will continue to deteriorate as this storm progresses.”

As a reminder drivers should anticipate delays and increased travel time throughout the week. Travel is not advised during this time period. To check road conditions in real-time, click here. For snow safe suggestions, click here.

Snow removal teams will be working non-stop 24-hour-operations. After the initial plowing is over, roadway widening operations will continue. This can be a slow process, but the goal is to make the roads safe and keep them safe for everyone.

“We need people to take this storm seriously, especially with the amount of snow we’ve already received,” said Fiore, “Roofs need to be cleared, snow and ice weigh a lot more than people think and can cause real problems if not taken care of.”

The city is also asking people to remove vehicles from snow removal areas. This has been a problem, and continues to be a problem. Illegally parked and abandoned cars hamper snow removal efforts and are dangerous for our snow removal operators.
