[ARCHIVED] Sierra Blvd. project slated to begin May 1

South Lake Tahoe, CA- The Sierra Blvd. Complete Streets project is expected to break ground May 1.

When it’s finished, the project will include a mixed-use recreational trail, sidewalk, driveway connections, curbs, gutters, drainage system, stormwater infiltration, and stormwater treatment. Bike lanes will also feature prominently in the project as well as parking along Sierra Blvd. and lighting at each intersection.

“We are excited this project is finally getting underway,” said Ray Jarvis, Public Works Director. “When it’s finished Sierra Blvd. will be safer and more accessible to the entire community.”

The mobilization of the Contractor’s equipment and general preparation for construction activity will begin next week.  The Contractor says they intend to start construction at the south end of the project and plans on concentrating their effort in three distinct sections of Sierra Blvd as follows:

A.    Barbara Avenue to Alma Avenue – May 1st through June 20th

B.    Alma Avenue to Armstrong Avenue – June 21st through August 7th

C.    Armstrong Avenue to Palmira Avenue – August 7th through October 15th

Barbara Ave. west of Sierra Blvd to Lodi will also be closed as that is the planned construction staging area. Work will begin with pulverizing the pavement surface. Then water system improvements and drainage improvements will be constructed. Southwest Gas Company will also be replacing their gas main and services via an independent gas main contractor.

During construction hours travel through the area is not advised. Access will be maintained to residents and the Sierra Community Church during construction. Long waits of up to an hour or more could occur in the sections receiving concentrated construction effort.
