[ARCHIVED] South Lake Tahoe Police Officers now carrying Narcan

South Lake Tahoe, CA- The South Lake Tahoe Police Department is taking action to fight back against the national opioid epidemic. SLTPD is equipping our officers, who are often the first responders on the scene of an opioid overdose, to be able to administer life-saving medication for those near death.

SLPTD, with assistance from the South Tahoe Drug-Free Coalition and the El Dorado County Health and Human Services, have equipped all our patrol officers with naloxone more commonly known as Narcan.

Narcan is a nasal spray medication, without any side effects, that is designed to reverse an opioid overdose rapidly. Officers recently completed training on how to recognize the signs of an opioid overdose and how properly administer the drug. Narcan is sprayed into someone's nostril, and in a matter of minutes, the effects of the overdose can be treated.

People can get Narcan with a prescription from their doctor or directly from the Pharmacist at Tahoe Valley Pharmacy located at 2074 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe.

For more information about Narcan, you can go directly to their website here
