South Lake Tahoe, CA- The Sierra Blvd. Complete Streets project will wrap up with a ribbon-cutting and celebration next week.
The project started in May and has helped to revitalize the neighborhood surrounding Sierra Blvd.
“This is a project that really benefits the entire community,” said Ray Jarvis, Public Works Director. “These improvements on Sierra. Blvd. have been a long time coming, and these changes represent more than road work, this project is truly a quality of life project as well.”
The project includes a mixed-use recreational trail, sidewalk, driveway connections, curbs, gutters, drainage system, stormwater infiltration, and stormwater treatment. It also includes new bike lanes as well as parking along Sierra Blvd. and lighting at each intersection.
“The Sierra Blvd. project is just one more example of the City making good on its promises and City Council’s priorities,” said City Manager Frank Rush, “Maintaining our roads has been a top priority for the City and the work done on Sierra Blvd. shows the City’s commitment to making sure those priorities become reality.”
The $6 million project was primarily grant-funded and was only part of the road work completed this year. Street maintenance was also completed in the Gardner Mountain area. In 2019 the City completed almost 3 miles of street maintenance with plans to rehabilitate 5-6 miles of roads every year in the future.
City Council and staff will be on hand to celebrate the reopening of Sierra Blvd. and to highlight the work that has been done in that area.
