South Lake Tahoe, CA- The community is invited to a meeting on the City’s first-ever Climate Action Plan.
The City of South Lake Tahoe is in the early stages of developing its first-ever Climate Action Plan (CAP), a critical step in reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the region. Our climate is changing, and in order for South Lake Tahoe to meet its aggressive emissions reduction goals, a long-term plan is necessary to outline strategies to reduce emissions. In addition to reducing emissions, the strategies considered in the CAP can also provide community benefits by supporting local economic development, improving wildfire resilience, reducing air pollution, improving traffic conditions, and improving public health and quality of life.
As a part of the CAP development process, the City is holding a kick-off meeting as an opportunity for members of the South Lake Tahoe community to learn more about what a CAP is and why the City is developing one. We will be discussing the results of the greenhouse gas emissions inventory that was completed last year, reviewing the emissions reduction targets set by City Council in 2017, and explaining the process moving forward. There will also be time for community members to ask questions and provide feedback.
The Climate Action Plan Kick-Off Meeting will be held at South Lake Tahoe City Council Chambers (1901 Lisa Maloff Way) from 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Wednesday, December 11th, 2019. All South Lake Tahoe community members are welcome. We look forward to seeing you there!
