South Lake Tahoe, CA- At their April 28 City Council meeting, council members approved the City Manager to give money to people in need. City Council approved $50,000 to go to 5 local charities helping to feed people who need help and approved the delay of business license payments until later in the year.
“The City is facing a loss of its own but we know there are so many people hurting in our community,” said Mayor Jason Collin, “This City cares about our residents and our small businesses and wanted to do something to give back.”
The $50,000 will go to 5 local charities including Bread and Broth, the Phoenix Food Pantry and Christmas Cheer. The idea behind the decision is to ensure people don’t go hungry during this time.
“We will not let people go hungry right now,” said Collin, “We are committed to providing the help these charities need to make sure that happens
The short-term economic recovery task force brought the idea forward to help businesses and residents who need it during the pandemic. The help was approved unanimously.
“We all have to do our part right now and the City is chipping in like so many others,” said interim City Manager Brad Kilger, “We cannot wait for this community to come back to life but right now we all realize we are stronger together and safer apart.”
City Council has not made a decision on a business loan or grant program but are looking forward to having that discussion in the future.
