South Lake Tahoe, CA- City Council decided today to allow Jason Collin to stay in his role as Mayor through the end of his term. Tamara Wallace will also remain Mayor Pro Tem.

Last year, Council decided to change 1-year terms to 9-month terms for those positions but decided today to revisit that decision at their December meeting.

“We want this Council to operate in the most effective way possible,” said Mayor Collin, “In December our goal is to provide clear definition for terms and transitions and allows for stable leadership to continue working hard for the residents of the City.”

Council will have 2 new members after the November election, and that Council will decide the new Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem.

“This Council has found a way to work together, discuss their differences, and make decisions with the best interest of our residents at heart,” said City Manager Joe Irvin, “I know Mayor Collin and Mayor Pro Tem Wallace will continue that leadership.”

The position of Mayor is not an elected position in South Lake Tahoe, but one appointed by the council members.

“Any one of us has the capabilities, and qualifications to serve this community as Mayor,” said Mayor Pro Tem Tamara Wallace, “This council has worked well together and will continue to. We hope this decision will ultimately eliminate some of the confusion around the terms of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem and allow us to keep serving this community well.”

The nomination period to run for City Council ends Wednesday, August 12, at 5:00 PM.
