[ARCHIVED] South Lake Tahoe Voters approve Measure S

My Post (17)

South Lake Tahoe, CA- The South Lake Tahoe voters have approved Measure S, a 1-cent sales tax that will provide a source of locally controlled funds for the City. As of November 6th, ballot release, the Measure was ahead 60.17% to 34.46%, with 8,766 ballots cast in the City, according to the El Dorado County Registrar’s website.

“We are thrilled at the high level of local voter participation in this election, which has already exceeded participation in the 2016 and 2018 general election contests,” said City Manager Joe Irvin. “It is clear that voters have approved Measure S and we want to thank everyone who participated in the election this year.”

Measure S was placed on the ballot by the South Lake Tahoe City Council for voter consideration after a year of engagement with and input from the community.

The funding Measure S will provide can be used to help maintain and improve basic city services the community identified as important including fire, wildfire, and public health emergency preparedness, road safety, preventing Lake pollution, removing snow, and the programs that help maintain our local small businesses through the pandemic.

“South Lake Tahoe voters were presented with a choice: to enact a source of locally controlled funds to address local needs or face even more cuts to vital services to address our recent coronavirus-related budget shortfall, said Irvin.  “They have chosen to ensure South Lake Tahoe neighborhoods and public areas are clean, safe and protected from wildfire, that our roads are maintained, and our local residents protected, keeping our community a desirable place to live, do business, and raise a family.”
