[ARCHIVED] City staff works hard as winter weather blankets the area

snow safety

South Lake Tahoe, CA- A Winter Storm, Avalanche, and Blizzard warning are still in effect for the City of South Lake Tahoe as snow removal teams work hard to keep roads clear and make this week safe for everyone.

“The good news is, we had no real issues overnight, but people need to remember to keep their cars off the road during snow events,” said Ray Jarvis, Public Works Director, “Snowfall is expected to continue throughout the day, but travel should be avoided today if possible.”

Plows are already out and will continue to maintain roads. When in snow removal conditions, snowplows have the right of way on streets, and vehicles left unattended in the streets are subject to citation and/or tow. For snow safe suggestions, click here.

Drivers should anticipate delays and increased travel time throughout the week. Travel could be very difficult if conditions worsen. To check road conditions in real-time, click here. Caltrans also has up to the minute information on their Facebook page.

“With snow expected to continue until the weekend safety is our top priority,” said Communications Manager Chris Fiore, “People have to be mindful of their actions so we can keep streets clear and people safe.”
