[ARCHIVED] Suspect in custody after opening fire on South Lake Tahoe officers

South Lake Tahoe, CA- South Lake Tahoe Police responded to a call, around 3:00 AM, about a man trying to break into a room at the Three Peaks Resort in the 900 block of Park Ave.

When officers arrived, the suspect opened fire on them with an assault-style rifle. An SLTPD officer returned fire and hit the suspect. Then the suspect retreated, leading to a two-hour standoff. 

SWAT and Crisis Negotiation Teams responded to the scene and eventually got the suspect to surrender. The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Barton Memorial Hospital. 

The suspect's information is not being released at this time. SLTPD is asking everyone to stay out of the area as the investigation continues this morning.
