[ARCHIVED] Update on Caldor Fire, Emergency Preparedness, Air Quality and Red Flag Warning

The Caldor Fire is burning in the steep Middle Fork Cosumnes River Canyon East of the Omo Ranch area in El Dorado County. Increasing levels of smoke in Lake Tahoe Basin are coming from the Caldor Fire.  We are closely monitoring this Caldor fire and will keep everyone updated as changes occur. As a reminder, emergency preparedness is crucial when living in an area prone to wildfire. Now is the time to ensure your vehicle has a full tank of fuel and is parked facing out. devices are charged, your emergency go kit is current and within reach, and that your family and pets are prepared and ready to evacuate. At this time, the air quality is at an unhealthy level, however, this can change with the high winds today. To view the latest air quality index, go to www.airnow.gov.

In addition, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for today, August 17 from 11 am to 11 pm. No outdoor fires of any kind are allowed during this time. This includes any bonfires or BBQs.  Check the NOAA website or follow them on social media for the latest Red Flag timing.
