Mayor Creegan Declares January 20 Miss Marcia Day
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CA, January 20, 2023 – South Lake Tahoe Mayor Cristi Creegan declared today, January 20, Miss Marcia Day in honor of Marcia Sarosik, founder of Lake Tahoe’s Shining Stars. As someone who represented the spirit of the South Lake Tahoe community, it was important to the City to commemorate her life on what would have been her 67th birthday. Mayor Creegan stated, “Miss Marcia was our own Shining Star and we miss her tremendously. Her joy, dedication, and love made an indelible impact on the community, which will continue to be felt for generations.”

Recognizing January 20, 2023, as
“Miss Marcia Day”
Whereas, Marcia Sarosik “Miss Marcia” was born on January 20, 1955 in Hamtrancek, Michigan, and;
Whereas, Miss Marcia was a dancer her entire life, performing across the country as a folk and tap dancer, and was a highly sought out choreographer, and;
Whereas, Miss Marcia taught school and dance in Michigan and Montana before moving to South Lake Tahoe in 1979, and;
Whereas, she started the Marcia Sarosik Dance Studio in 1984, home of Lake Tahoe’s Shining Stars; and,
Whereas, Lake Tahoe Shining Stars, a non-profit Marcia started, was founded in 2006 and provides Dance and Performing Arts education to children in South Lake Tahoe at a discounted rate for families who otherwise would be unable to afford lessons, and;
Whereas, Miss Marcia was chosen to carry the 2002 Olympic Torch representing the spirit of the City of South Lake Tahoe; and,
Whereas, she was passionate about sharing her love for dance and taught thousands of South Lake Tahoe youth how to dance over the years, and,
Whereas, Miss Marcia touched the lives of countless people in our community and made everyone feel like they could be a shining star.
Now, therefore, the City Council of the City of South Lake Tahoe does hereby proclaim January 20, 2023, as “Miss Marcia Day”.
