[ARCHIVED] Structure Fire at Deerfield Lodge

A structure fire began at approximately 11:45 pm on Wednesday, July 23rd at Deerfield Lodge located on Ski Run Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe.

According to South Lake Tahoe Fire Chief Jeff Meston, six rooms and five vehicles were damaged in the fire. Of the rooms, three were completely destroyed by fire on the second floor of the building and the three units on the first floor suffered severe water damage.

Thirty five people comprising sixteen families were displaced by the fire. Two guests were injured when jumping off of the second floor and were transported to Barton Hospital.

The estimated loss is $2.5 million at this time and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Thank you to the number of agencies assisting, including; South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District, CalFire, Lake Valley Fire Protection District, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department, El Dorado District Attorney’s office, and the California Highway Patrol. Additional assistance was also provided by Carson City Fire Department, East Fork Fire Protection District and North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District allowed Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District to deploy all of their vehicles and personnel to this fire event.

A special thank you to the Tahoe Transportation District and Lakeside Inn for providing transportation and lodging to the displaced guests at the Deerfield Lodge on the night of the fire.

Local businesses who have provided donations and assistance to these families include; Belfor Property Restoration, Freshies Restaurant, Hard Rock Café, KRLT, Lakeland Village, Lakeshore Lodge and Spa, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, Stardust Lodge Lake Tahoe, and Tahoe Chamber.
