The City of South Lake Tahoe is pleased to announce the release of the Airport Master Plan Update – DRAFT Phase 2 Report. Join us for the fourth and final public meeting on Tuesday, June 30th from 5:30pm-7pm and submit your comments regarding the Airport Master Plan Update.
The City initiated this Airport Master Plan Update in 2013, with funding support from the FAA, in order to determine the current and future potential of the Airport. The recommended development will be presented in three planning periods; short-term (2015 to 2019), intermediate term (2020 to 2024), and long-term (2025 to 2034).
During the master plan process the City asked for community input with regards to the future of the Lake Tahoe Airport. Comments range from the Airport’s full closure to resuming commercial service. A review of the existing and future aviation demand concluded that although resuming commercial service would not be a viable alternative, demand currently exists and will continue to exist for the 20 year planning period for an increase in general aviation aircraft use. Based on community input, the preferred alternative is to keep the airport as it is with some improvements.
